Edit a part

How to open an existing part from Inventory and edit its listing, technical, package, description and policy fields in the detail view — including setting independent eBay US and UK prices and shipping — and what saving does versus pushing changes to a live listing.

Every part in your inventory has a detail view where you change its listing information, technical specs, packaging, description and policies. You open the part from your Inventory list, switch the view into edit mode, change what you need and save. Saving updates the part inside GridX Connect. It does not automatically change a listing that is already live on eBay — that is a separate step, covered below.

> [!NOTE] > The detail view opens as a dialog over your inventory. On a phone it slides up as a full-screen sheet; on a larger screen it is a centred card. Its header shows the part's SKU once the part has loaded; it reads Loading… while the part is fetching, and only falls back to Inventory Details when there is no part data. Clicking the dark area outside the dialog, or pressing Escape, closes it — and closing this way discards an edit in progress.

Before you start

  • The part must already exist in your inventory. To create one first, see Add a part.
  • You need edit permission. Without it the detail view is read-only and no edit control appears.
  • The US and UK marketplace tabs only show if your account sells on two or more eBay marketplaces. Single-marketplace accounts edit one set of fields.

Steps

  1. Open the part from your Inventory list. Its detail view opens read-only.
  2. Click the pencil control in the header — its label is Edit details. The fields become editable.
  3. Change the fields you need across the Listing, Technical and Package cards, plus the description and policies.
  4. Click Save Changes. While it works the button reads Saving..., and it stays greyed out until you have an unsaved change. On a phone, use the floating save bar that appears at the bottom in edit mode.
  5. To undo, click Reset to clear your edits (it only appears once you have unsaved changes), or Cancel to leave edit mode and discard everything.

In edit mode the SKU in the header also becomes editable (up to 50 characters by default). A live character counter sits beside each text field, turning amber as you near the limit and red when you are almost at it.

Just below the header, an identity bar shows the part type, the part number labelled Part #, and a warehouse-location control: Add location if none is set, or the location pill and a Print location label button once one exists. Location is edited in its own window, separate from the main save.

Listing details

The Listing Details card holds the fields that make up the eBay listing.

Two fields are shown here but are read-only: Stock Status (In Stock or Low Stock) and Category.

> [!NOTE] > Not every limit is fixed. Title and Part Type here — and the SKU in the header — follow your account's configured limits when set, and the counter reflects those. Brand and Country of Origin always use the fixed 65-character limit regardless of account configuration.

Description and policies

The Product Description box takes plain text — its placeholder reads Enter product description in plain text (no HTML needed). Max 500 words. A word counter shows your count out of 500 and turns red past it, but this is a soft guide: it does not stop you typing. When you save, GridX Connect builds the full HTML description automatically from this text, your fitments and your policies. In read-only view you can also see the generated Full HTML Description once one has been saved.

The policy section has five tabs — Payment, Shipping, Returns, Handling and International. Each is a text box (up to 2000 characters) for a per-item override. The active tab shows Custom when you have set an override or Default when it falls back to your account policy, and an overridden tab carries a small amber dot labelled Custom override. Leave a tab empty to use your account default; a blank one reads No policy set in read-only view.

Technical details

The Technical Details card is a grid of spec fields. Fitting Position, Material, OE Numbers and Features are always editable and each hold up to 65 characters. In read-only view, OE Numbers is shown as separate chips, split on spaces, commas or semicolons.

Three fields appear only when the part already has a value for them, even in edit mode:

  • Brand Type — a dropdown offering Genuine OEM, Aftermarket Branded, Private Label and Unbranded, with Reset to auto-derived at the top. GridX Connect derives this value; picking the reset option hands it back to the automatic value.
  • Interchange Part Number and Superseded Part Number — pre-filled defaults you can overwrite as free text. Their placeholder, Clear to reset to auto-derived, tells you that emptying the box restores the automatic value.

Any custom item specifics on the part are shown here read-only; there is no edit box for them.

Package details

The Package Details card is optional — its sub-line reads Use if you have a calculated shipping policy. It appears only in edit mode, or when the part already has a weight or size saved.

  • Weight — two boxes, lbs (whole pounds) and oz (0 to 15).
  • Dimensions (inches) — three boxes for length, width and height, labelled L, W and H.

Leaving a box empty clears that value. In read-only view, weight shows as "0 lbs 0 oz" and dimensions appear only once all three measurements are filled.

Editing for eBay UK

If your account sells on more than one eBay marketplace, a marketplace selector appears with two tabs, each showing the eBay logo and a short code — US and UK (the marketplaces eBay US and eBay UK). It scopes three things to one marketplace at a time: Price, Shipping Policy and the fitments. Switching tabs crossfades the panel without reloading, so an edit in progress keeps its place and photos do not re-fetch. A small amber dot labelled Unsaved edits marks a tab with price or shipping changes you have not saved.

Prices are independent per marketplace. On the US tab the field is Price; it shows a (USD) qualifier when multichannel selling is active. On the UK tab it is Price (GBP) and carries a badge: Pinned means you have set a fixed GBP price, FX-derived means it tracks the US dollar price through the exchange rate. Editing one marketplace's price never changes the other. Enter a GBP amount to pin it; clear the box to let it go back to tracking USD.

Shipping Policy works the same way: the UK tab has its own dropdown, with the hint Sets the eBay UK listing only (saved independently of US). Until you change it, the UK policy is left untouched and no update is sent for it.

Saving, and what reaches eBay

Clicking Save Changes writes your edits to the part inside GridX Connect and, in doing so, rebuilds the item's HTML description from your plain-text description, fitments and policies.

Saving does not push your changes to a listing that is already live on eBay. Sending changes to a live listing is a separate action — a Revise, run per channel. See Revise a live listing.
