Add, reorder, edit and remove the product photos on a single part, and learn the rules eBay needs.

Add photos to a part

eBay will not accept a listing without a photo, so every part needs at least one image before you can publish it. This article covers adding, reordering, editing and removing photos on a single part in its Product Images panel.

The panel handles one part at a time. It does not upload photos for many parts at once — that is Image Drive — and it does not create a stand-in when you have no photo yet — that is PartSnap. It also does not check a photo's pixel size when you upload it directly; only the built-in editor does that, and only when you save an edit.

Anyone on your team can add, reorder, edit and delete photos. You do not need admin access for this.

Before you start

  • Photos in JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, each under 10MB. eBay also wants at least 500px on the shortest side.
  • The part open in Inventory — click its row to open the detail view.
  • No admin access is needed to manage a part's photos.

Steps

  1. Open Inventory and click the part to open it. Scroll to Product Images. The header counts your photos, for example Product Images (3/24).
  2. Click the blue Upload button and choose your files. If the part has no photos yet, you can instead drag files onto the dashed drop area, or click it to browse.
  3. On a phone or tablet, Upload opens an Add a photo sheet — tap Take a photo to use the camera, or Upload from system to pick files. A computer goes straight to the file browser.
  4. Wait for the progress bar. It moves through Preparing upload…, Uploading {n}/{total} files…, Confirming upload… and Processing {n}/{total} images…, then Done! There is no cancel button, so let it finish.
  5. Put the photos in the order you want. On a computer, drag a thumbnail to a new position; on a phone, use the Move earlier (up) and Move later (down) chevrons. The order saves on its own — there is no save button.
  6. Check the main photo. Position 1 is always the main photo, the one buyers see first. Move a different photo into position 1 to change it.
  7. Tidy a photo if you need to. Click the pencil on a tile to open the editor, make your change, and Save.
  8. Remove anything you do not want. Click the red trash icon on the tile and confirm.

The main photo, and ordering

The photo in position 1 is always the main photo. It carries a blue border, a blue 1 badge and a Main chip. There is no "set as main" button — you make a photo the main one by moving it into position 1. If you delete the photo in position 1, the photo in position 2 moves up and becomes the new main.

Dragging works on a computer; on a phone, use the Move earlier and Move later chevrons on each tile. Either way the new order saves on its own. If a reorder fails to save, you see Failed to reorder images and the order snaps back — try the move again.

The built-in photo editor

Click the pencil on a tile to open the full-screen editor. On a computer the pencil and trash icons only appear when you hover over the tile; on a phone they sit in the tile bar. The editor has five tabs: Adjust (crop, rotate, flip), Finetune, Filters, Watermark and Annotate. It opens on Adjust with Crop ready, and Save applies straight away. Your edited photo goes back into the exact slot it came from, so a main photo stays main.

The editor is also where the 500px minimum comes in. A direct upload is not checked for pixel size, so a small photo can go on with no warning. When you save an edit, the editor scales anything smaller than 500px on its shortest side up to 500px.

The Watermark tab is the only place to add your own logo or text to a real photo, one photo at a time. There is no way to watermark many photos at once, and uploaded photos get no automatic branded border. Your store logo is added for you only on PartSnap placeholder images.

> [!WARNING] > Deleting a photo cannot be undone, and the confirm does not warn you if the part is live on eBay. The dialog reads "This image will be removed from this item. This can't be undone."

What happens to a live listing

If the part is already live on eBay, changing its photos may flag the listing for revision. Check the part's eBay status in the detail view — if it shows Needs revision, click Revise to push the change to eBay.

You cannot delete the last photo on a live listing, because eBay requires at least one. A part with no photos at all shows a No images status and cannot go live. In the part's eBay panel this reads Needs images, with an Add images button and the line {imageCount} of 24 uploaded · upload at least one image to publish. Add a real photo, use Image Drive, or generate a PartSnap placeholder to clear it.

If something goes wrong

Text in braces is filled in with your own values on screen.
