How fitment works

How GridX Connect attaches verified vehicle compatibility to your parts automatically, and what the Engine Verified badge means.

What a fitment is

A fitment is one vehicle your part fits — its year, make and model, and sometimes the trim and the engine. The full list of them is a part's Vehicle Compatibility, and it is what tells an eBay buyer whether your part suits their car.

You don't type this list in. When you add a part, GridX Connect works out the compatible vehicles for you from the part number and shows them on the part. Your job is to read that list, remove anything you don't agree with, and add a note where a vehicle needs a caveat.

Two things fitment does not do. It does not let you enter a vehicle by hand — the list is worked out for you, and editing only removes rows and adds notes. And saving a change to the list does not update your live eBay listing on its own; you Revise the listing to send the change up.

> [!NOTE] > You review and tidy a part's fitments on the part itself, in the Vehicle Compatibility card. FitX is a different tool, for eBay listings you already have live that carry no compatibility at all. It is not where you review a part you created in GridX Connect.

Before you start

  • You are in Inventory and have opened the part.
  • You have inventory edit rights if you want to change the list — both company-admin and staff accounts can edit, so Edit Fitments is available to you.
  • The part has at least one fitment, or is published on a marketplace other than eBay US — otherwise the Vehicle Compatibility card doesn't appear at all.

Steps

  1. In Inventory, click the part to open its detail tray.
  2. Scroll to the Vehicle Compatibility card, below Technical Details. The heading carries the fitment count.
  3. Read the vehicle table. Year, Make and Model always show; Trim, Engine, K-Type and Notes appear only when they apply. A blank cell shows "-".
  4. If you sell on two or more eBay marketplaces, use the US and UK tabs at the top of the tray to switch which marketplace's list you're looking at — the two are separate.
  5. To change anything, click Edit Fitments. The steps for that are in the companion guide, Edit the fitments on a part.

Where the list comes from

Every fitment starts from the part number. When GridX Connect adds a part, it looks that part number up against eBay's vehicle-compatibility data and returns the vehicles that match. You never build the list yourself.

The two eBay marketplaces use different vehicle-matching systems, so a part's US and UK compatibility are worked out separately and kept as two lists:

  • eBay US rows are matched against eBay's US compatibility data.
  • eBay UK rows use K-Type, the vehicle identifier eBay uses in the UK. When a part carries K-Type numbers they appear in their own K-Type column; US fitments don't use K-Type.

Because the two lists are separate, a part only gets a UK list once it's published to eBay UK. Until then, the UK tab shows "Not listed on eBay UK yet".

The Engine Verified badge

Some parts show a green Engine Verified badge on the card. Rest your pointer on it and the tooltip reads "This SKU has verified engine-specific fitment data". It means the compatibility is confirmed right down to the exact engine, not only the broad year, make and model — the most precise level of fitment.

When a part is Engine Verified, its table also shows the Engine column and the Notes column. Not every part earns the badge; whether a given part number qualifies is worked out for you, and it isn't something you switch on.

The Edited badge

An amber Edited pill means someone has changed this part's fitments and saved them, so the list no longer matches the one GridX Connect first proposed. Treat it as a marker that the compatibility has been tidied by hand rather than left as generated. To go back to the proposed list, open Edit Fitments and use Reset to Original — covered in Edit the fitments on a part.

Which columns you see

The vehicle columns are always read-only — the only thing you can type on a row is its note.

Finding parts with no compatibility

The Inventory list previews each part's fitment count under its title, so you can spot the parts still showing "No fitments" at a glance. To pull up every one of them together, open Filters in the Inventory toolbar and set the Fitments chip to No Fitments (the same chip's Has Fitments does the opposite). It's the quickest way to find parts that need attention before you publish them.

If something goes wrong

  • There's no Vehicle Compatibility card on the part. The card only appears once a part has at least one fitment, or once it's published on a marketplace other than eBay US. A part with no fitments at all shows no card — and there's no way to create the first fitment by hand.
  • The UK tab says "Not listed on eBay UK yet." The full message reads "Publish this item to eBay UK to generate and view its K-Type fitments." You're viewing a marketplace this part isn't published on yet. Publish it to eBay UK first, and its UK compatibility is generated then.
  • The vehicles look wrong or thin. Open Edit Fitments to remove rows you don't agree with and add notes — see Edit the fitments on a part. There is no way to add a vehicle by hand, and FitX cannot help here either: it only works on eBay listings that were not created in GridX Connect. If a part is missing vehicles it clearly fits, note the difference in the Notes column and contact support with the part number.
