Reconnect your eBay account
When publishing stops, tell an eBay connection problem from a billing pause, and reconnect your seller account from the Channels page.
When publishing suddenly stops working, the cause is almost always one of two things: your eBay connection has dropped, or a billing limit has paused processing. These are fixed in different places, so the first job is to work out which one you are facing.
Your eBay connection lives on the Channels page — the Channels item in the sidebar — not in Settings. That is where you connect your seller account, check whether it is still linked, and reconnect if it has dropped. Only an account admin can change the connection; staff members can open Channels but cannot connect or disconnect.
GridX Connect does not have a separate "Reconnect" button. If the connection has gone, you reconnect by running Connect eBay again — the same control you used the first time. There is also no "expired" or "needs re-authorisation" warning: the app shows your eBay connection as either connected or not connected, with nothing in between.
> [!NOTE] > Some in-app messages mention "Settings > Channels". The connection actually lives on the top-level Channels page in the sidebar. If a link points you at Settings looking for eBay, come to Channels instead.
Before you start
- You need to be an account admin. Connect eBay and Disconnect account are admin-only. Staff can view Channels but cannot change the connection, so a staff member who is blocked needs to ask an admin.
- Work out whether you have a connection problem or a billing pause (see the table below) — they are fixed in different places.
- Have your eBay sign-in details to hand. Reconnecting opens eBay's own sign-in page in a popup, so allow popups for this site.
Steps
- Open Channels from the sidebar.
- Look at the connection status at the top of the page. A green dot with Connected followed by your marketplace name means the account is linked; a grey dot with Not connected means it is not.
- If you see Not connected, select Connect eBay. The Connect your eBay store window opens and asks which marketplace is your primary store — choose United States or United Kingdom, then select Continue.
- A popup window titled eBay Authorization opens. Sign in to eBay and approve access. If no window appears, your browser has blocked the popup — allow popups for this site and try again.
- When you return, you will see "eBay account connected successfully! Now configure your business policies." Set your shipping, return, and payment policies on the same page.
- If the header still shows Connected but items keep failing to publish, open a failing item, read the reason shown on its Failed status, and — if it points to a sign-in or permission problem — use the overflow (three-dot) menu on the connected-account row to select Disconnect account, then run Connect eBay again.
Is it the connection, or a billing pause?
The symptom tells you where to go. A connection problem sends you to Channels; a billing pause sends you to Settings > Billing.
| What you see | What it means | Where to fix it | |---|---|---| | Pressing Publish shows "Connect eBay first" and "Open Channels to link your eBay account." | No eBay account is connected | Channels — run Connect eBay | | The Channels header shows Not connected | The eBay connection has dropped | Channels — run Connect eBay | | "Spending limit reached — SKU processing paused" or "Increase your limit to resume, or wait for the next billing cycle." | A billing pause, not a connection issue | Settings > Billing — Adjust limit | | "Free plan limit reached" or "Plan limit reached" | You have used your plan's allowance | Settings > Billing, or upgrade your plan | | A Failed or Publish failed pill on an item while the header still shows Connected | eBay rejected that specific listing | Read the reason on the item, fix it, and republish |
If the message is about a limit, an allowance, or your subscription, it is a billing matter and reconnecting eBay will not help. If the message is about connecting eBay or opening Channels, it is a connection matter and raising your spending limit will not help.
What "Connected" and "Not connected" mean
The connection is shown as a plain on/off state. On the Channels header, Connected appears with a green dot and your marketplace name; Not connected appears with a grey dot and the prompt to connect your seller account to start. Your dashboard mirrors this: it reads Connected to eBay when linked, and offers Manage channel when connected or Connect channel when it is not.
Because the state is binary, GridX Connect will not warn you that a token is about to expire or has been revoked on eBay's side. Most of the time, a lost connection shows plainly as Not connected. Occasionally the header may still read Connected while every publish fails — in that case, treat it as a connection problem and reconnect by disconnecting and connecting again, as in step 6 above.
What reconnecting does and does not tell you
Reconnecting re-links your eBay seller account so that publishing and revising can run again. What the app does not show you, before you reconnect, is whether your existing live listings, eBay item numbers, and past sales history carry across unchanged — that is handled on eBay's and our servers, not surfaced in the app. If you depend on live listings, reconnect during a quiet period and check a handful of items afterwards to confirm they still look right.
Disconnecting is deliberate and admin-only. Choosing Disconnect account opens a confirmation headed Disconnect eBay account? with the warning "You will need to reconnect before publishing listings again." and a Disconnect button. The app does not state whether disconnecting ends your live listings or turns off eBay UK, so only disconnect when you intend to reconnect.
If something goes wrong
- "Connect eBay first" / "Open Channels to link your eBay account." appears when you press Publish and no account is connected. Open Channels and run Connect eBay.
- "Popup was blocked. Please allow popups for this site and try again." means your browser stopped the eBay sign-in window. Allow popups for this site, then select Connect eBay again.
- "Failed to initiate eBay connection" or "Failed to connect to eBay" means the connection could not be started. Try again shortly; if it keeps failing, contact support.
- "Failed to connect eBay account" on your return from eBay means eBay declined the link. The wording on screen comes from eBay — read it, address what it asks for, and try again.
- A Failed or Publish failed pill on an item that is still shown as Connected is eBay rejecting that one listing, not a lost connection. Open the item, read the reason behind the Failed status, correct it, then republish by running Publish or Revise again. There is no need to reconnect for a single failed item.
