Research and reprice many parts at once
Use the bulk Research and bulk Price actions in Inventory to check market prices and reprice many parts in one run.
What bulk Research and bulk Price do
When you have a whole batch of parts to price, you do not have to research and reprice them one at a time. From the Inventory page you can select rows and run two bulk actions from the selection toolbar: Research, which pulls a fresh market price for each part, and Price, which changes your prices in a chosen way.
Keep the two apart in your head. Research is read-only — it fills in each row's Market column but never touches your price. Price is the write action — it changes the price stored on your items. Repricing does not push anything to eBay by itself; it flags your live listings for revision so you can send them with the bulk Revise action afterwards.
Both Research and Price are admin-only. Staff can still see the Market column and use the Market Research page, but an admin runs the bulk work.
> [!NOTE] > The loop is always the same: Research first (get market prices), Price second (apply a strategy), then Revise to push the new prices to your live eBay listings.
Before you start
- An admin login — the Research and Price bulk buttons appear for admins only.
- A selection of rows. Tick items in the Inventory table, or use select-all across the filtered view.
- For the Match to market strategies, hand-picked rows. These do not run on a select-all selection.
- Connected eBay listings, if you intend to push new prices live with Revise.
Steps
- On Inventory, tick the rows you want to work on.
- Click Research in the selection toolbar. In the Research N items prompt, choose the shipping basis — "Free (absorbed)" or "Buyer pays" — then click Run research.
- Watch the Researching market prices banner. It runs in the background (roughly five seconds per item, up to 100 items per run) and survives a page refresh. It turns green as Market research complete when done, and each researched row's Market column fills in.
- With the rows still selected, click Price in the toolbar.
- Choose a strategy: Adjust your prices (raise or lower by a percentage or a dollar amount), Match market median, or Undercut market.
- Review the preview or the strategy copy, then click Apply.
- Read the result message — it says how many prices changed and how many were set aside, and reminds you that live eBay listings are flagged for revision.
- Click Revise in the toolbar to push the new prices to your live eBay listings.
Choosing a Price strategy
The Price modal offers one primary action and two market-matching options.
| Strategy | What it does | Works with select-all? | |---|---|---| | Adjust your prices | Raises or lowers every selected item by a percentage or a dollar amount, with a live preview of exactly what will change. On multi-marketplace accounts, currency tabs ($ USD / £ GBP) pick which price set changes. | Yes | | Match market median | Sets each price equal to its researched eBay median. | No — hand-picked rows only | | Undercut market | Sets each price a chosen percentage below its median. Undercut by takes a value from 1% to 50% (default 5%). | No — hand-picked rows only |
The two market strategies only affect items that already have a market price, which is why you research first. When you select-all, Match market median and Undercut market are greyed out with the note "Unavailable with 'select all' — pick items one by one to use these." In that case, tick rows by hand, or use Adjust your prices, which works in both modes.
Salvage and used parts
On the single Market Research page you pick a Part Type: Aftermarket, OEM, or Salvage. Salvage searches used listings, while OEM and Aftermarket search new ones — so a salvage part is compared against the right kind of listing. Aftermarket parts need a brand; OEM and Salvage parts need a vehicle make.
For stocked items you do not set a part type in the bulk run. Each item already carries its own details, and a bulk Research run works from what is stored on the row. The shipping basis you pick in the prompt (Free (absorbed) or Buyer pays) is the only choice that applies to the whole run.
After you apply: what gets set aside
Repricing is honest about what it could not do. After Apply, the result tells you what changed and what was set aside:
- Match to market reports items that "need research" (their market data is missing or stale) and items that "need a manual price" (their listings vary too widely to match). For the first group, a "Research market price?" dialog offers Research now — it says, for example, that a number of items "have no fresh market price yet. Research them now, then re-run Price Match." Take it up, wait for Market research complete, then run Price again. Items that need a manual price will never produce a confident figure, so price those by hand.
- Adjust your prices sets aside any item where the change is not valid — for instance "Discount would drop the price to $0 or below" or "Item has an invalid current price".
Because bulk research is capped at 100 items per run, a large bucket that needs research is done in batches. If more than 100 items need research, the dialog warns "Only the first 100 will be researched this run — re-run Price Match to continue."
Pushing new prices to eBay
Changing a price in GridX Connect does not change your live eBay listing on its own. When you reprice, affected live listings are flagged for revision. Select the same rows and click Revise in the toolbar to send the new prices to eBay. If an item comes back as Revise failed, open the row, read the reason shown behind that status, correct it, and run Revise again.
If something goes wrong
| On-screen text | Why it appears | What to do | |---|---|---| | "Researching the first 100 of N selected" / "Bulk market research is capped at 100 items per run." | More than 100 rows were sent to bulk research. | Let the run finish, then research the rest in another run. | | "Market research is busy" | A research run is already going, or the daily research allowance is reached. | Wait and retry; capped items can be re-run later. | | "Failed to start market research" | The bulk run could not begin. | Retry Run research; reduce the selection if it repeats. | | "Not available on your plan" | The action is not included on your plan. | Check your plan, or ask an admin to run it. | | "Unavailable with 'select all' — pick items one by one to use these." | A market-matching strategy was chosen with select-all. | Tick rows by hand, or use Adjust your prices. | | "Discount would drop the price to $0 or below" / "Item has an invalid current price" / "No UK price set — add one first" | An adjusted item could not take the change. | Reduce the decrease, fix the item's price, or add a UK price / switch the currency tab to $ USD. | | "Price update failed" | The bulk price change could not be applied. | Retry Apply; try a smaller selection if it repeats. | | A revised item shows "Revise failed" | eBay rejected the revision for that item. | Open the row, read the reason behind the Revise failed status, fix it, and run Revise again. |
